So, the countdown has begun - in less than 6 weeks I’ll be back in Limerick, with Jersey Bitch by my side! Who’s brave enough (or crazy enough!) to join us for beverages in one of the local watering holes??? Any takers???

Right Jen, we are on a mission he he he. I am assuming of course that this is going to be a marathon drinking session, starting pre-noon and ending once all the old haunts and new haunts have been christened. Oh, I cant wait!!!

from Limerick myself, in NY for over a decade. Follow your blog when time permits - enjoy the Irish slant on American life. So which are your old haunts of Limerick ?

Malachy, thanks for the comment!
Old haunts would cover the Davin Arms and Molly Malones to name a few and of course what was a night on the town without swinging by Docs and heading to Friar Tucks for late night grub after!! Good times!!!

I hope garlic fries and cheese were on the menu @ Friar Tucks or a good old Kebab. Yes - Docs was the business - warm summer evenings in the courtyard. hmmm Davin Arms - my side of town too.

Ah Malachy, you’ve been in NY too long “garlic fries and cheese”? Its garlic and cheese chip! ha ha ha
And I am afraid to break this terribe news - but Friar Tucks is no more - its now Apache Pizza! Sorry peeps

yeah - to my shock and dismay, I discovered the disappearance of Friar Tucks in a drunken stupor a few years ago - you can imagine my reaction !!
how many times had I sat on the steps of the Franciscans @ 3 in the morning muchin on Friar Tucks (and trying to avoid a hiding from some random knacker) before walking home or hoping for a taxi to stop.

all this talk of good greasy limerick food and drinking establishments:-
a thought/suggestion for limerickgal & Co -
a survey/poll of top 5 Limerick pubs, and/or fast food joints (would have to be within a context of years - as the best pubs today were not the same as the best pubs 10-15 years ago) - so Top 5 pubs of the 90s ?

I can’t remember the names of half the places we used to hang out in but I’ll give it a shot
Hmmmm…………….
Pubs:
The Davin
Molly’s
Newtown Perry
The Shebeen
Can’t remember the names of other places we always visited - old age is a terrible thing!
Fast Food:
Golden Grill
Friar Tucks
Luigi’s
Chicken Hut
Donkey Fords
Anyone else going to join in???

Lads I have become a workaholic and not been here in ages.
Friar Tucks is no more. I fckin loved that place so much. Watching all the fights while munching on good food is no longer happening…. ItryThe Lobster Pot, two doors down beside the light shop… Great Garlic chip with cheese and two battered sausages in there. Donkey Fords is still there!! Abrekebabra is the only place to get a daaaycent Kebab here in Limerick.
Of course Supermacs is still there on the corner.. that street is pedestrianised now!
The Shebeen is gone. I used to work there. Tropics etc is no all closed. There is a new building going up there.. I think its going to be a hotel again.. maybe I am wrong
Limerick has changed a bit in the last ten years with big modern buildings. You are in for a shock!
Nancy Blakes is still rockin though. There is a new pub up beside it called Flannerys.. it seems good. The Davin is still the same ole same ole.
Yes the chicken hut still has the best sauce for chips in the world
Docs is now called the Trinity Rooms. Full of people way way younger than us now. I feel old.

Oh and remember… Americans tip.. we dont… save yourself 500 euros by NEVER tipping when you are over here ok….
If you tip you will look silly.. the price is on the board.. thats all you pay!
Jersey Bitch said,
April 13, 2007 @
Thanks for the tip Limerick Guy!! Will you be joining us at one of the local pubs by chance??
limerickgal said,
April 13, 2007 @
LG, you don’t have to remind me about not tipping! Hey - are you going to come have a beverage with us???? I promise we don’t bite
Malachy said,

So - of the contributors above - who is actually from Limerick - should one assume that it is ‘Jersey Bitch’s’ first time in Limbo ? and if so - she better start raising the alcohol tolerance levels now !!!!
And to Limerick Guy - I suspect you’d have a lot of fun out with these ladies, but assume it is safe to say that if they do bite, they at least dont bite too hard
Jersey Bitch said,

You are correct Malachy it is my first time!! Oh, and believe me I have been practicing for months now. I just hope I have been practicing enough!!! Any words of wisdom?? Tips? Pointers? Ideas on how to be sure I am ready???!!!!
